Arminè Kassabian Mezzo-Soprano

Arminè holds Bachelor's, Master's and Artist Diploma degrees from the Schulich School of Music of McGill University in Music (Voice Performance, Opera). Awarded "Outstanding Work Award in 2015 with the Montreal Academy of Music for her dedication and talented teaching methods. She has a passion for music and a talent to effectively communicate her musical ideas to her students. As a teacher, she aims to develop musicality which gives confidence to perform and to enjoy the process of learning while improving their talents. Arminè assists young students through their difficulties by identifying and applying creative methods, such as imaginative demonstrations and explanations, in order to develop their vocal instrument. Emphasis is given to various languages in order to have the understanding of diction and communicating emotions. Arminè has several years of experience in singing in German, English, French, Italian, Armenian and Spanish. She enjoys all styles of music.

Arminè has studied piano since 1993, and she has obtained her grade 8 Ottawa Royal Conservatory in piano. She has participated in several piano competitions in Ottawa and Montreal and has won many prizes. She adapts well to the needs of children and to students of all ages as beginners and intermediates. Arminè has taught piano and singing for 10 years at several Music schools; Long and McQuade, Tutti Muzik, Canada Music Academy, Montreal Academy of Music. She has given music workshops (voice) at summer Camps (Camp d'été Sevan) and Montessori School in Montreal. She believes that the piano is an instrument that helps grow a person's knowledge of music, such as the growth of musicianship, memory, attentiveness, concentration and simply an appreciation for the Arts.

Recognized for her "voluminous and luscious vocal tone" (International Opera), mezzo-soprano Arminè is quickly establishing herself as one of Canada’s most sought after young artists. Of her recent role debut as Der Komponist with Pacific Opera Victoria's Ariadne auf Naxos, Ms. Kassabian was praised as a "fresh-toned mezzo-soprano" (Toronto Star), who "dominated the prologue with her amazing vocals and spot-on acting. Dazzling as the young composer, she displayed incredible power and precision – her voice could push an audience against the backs of their seats." (CVV Other debuts this season included Mercedes in Carmen with Opera Lyra and the title role in Carmen with Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques which toured throughout China. Ms. Kassabian won First Place at the Brian Law Opera Competition, Second Place at the New Jersey Verismo Opera Association Competition and was a finalist at the Riccardo Zandonai International Competition.

Arminè’s strengths and specialties include: a passion for music; communicating musical ideal; a strong technical foundation combined with a successful performing experience and teaching; focus on the musicality and technique of students with the intent of producing a moving, energetic, effective and convincing performances. She emphasizes healthy and effective technique and her students consistently excel in competitions and festivals at the local.  Students have also achieved great success in being accepted in York University, Ottawa University, Vanier College and De La Salle high school of art in voice performance as well successful Royal Conservatory exams in piano.
